Mass Media can play many different roles in our everyday lives. The role that media plays in my life most of the time is influential. Songs tend to be the most influential thing in mass media that inspires me to not worry about what others say but to be my self and love me for me.Artists like Selena Gomez, Rhianna, Chirs Brown, have their own way of doing things different from other artist. For example Chirs Brown dying his hair, his way of dressing, and in his new CD mixing up his style of beats so that it can appeal to all types of people is admirable to me. Also Selena Gomez song "Who Says",in the video shows all type of people who are the opposite of each other (rich /poor,smart/dumb).Her point of the song is to say who says you can't be who ever you set out to be.These artist make me feel happy that everyone doesn't think alike and let me know some people have a difference in opinion about things that are a BIG topic in today's society.Beauty in media sets different standards to be consider beautiful that different girls try to meet every day.For example when you wear make up you look "beautiful"and if you don't your encourage to find the make up to make you look it . But what if you don't wear make up, are you ugly because you preferr natural beauty to artifical beauty?I'm a consumer because I listen to these Artists and consume most of the good things they say in there music about being your self and loving your self for you. In this class I hope to learn how media changes the way society thinks through subliminal messages.I think by learning this I will be able to learn more about my self and the television, news papers and computers that I am around every day little knowledge about how much they affect me with the information they give. I want to learn about media and evaluate myself to see how much I am affected.
Do you beleive most things the media put out?
Do you live by whatever the media says is good you listen and whatever is bad you listen?
How do you know from what is truth and what is opinion?
since your post focused on music so much as far as an impact on you when it comes to media, how do you think the music will in about 20 years? do you think it'll be more commercialized as far as artificial beauty and wanting the "fast life"? Or become more political? for example, the rock song that was played during class?
ReplyDeleteAlso, since your post deals with mainly music do you think advertisers pay famous people to make their products popular by wearing it, making a song about it, etc.? Or do you thing they actually like it.
ReplyDeleteYou bring up a good point about not letting media define us as a person. How does a person in this media saturated world navigate it without being swept up in tide and losing themselves in the process?
ReplyDeleteI agree....As a young society we are easily influenced especially by entertainers whom we look up to. We have to learn how to pay close attention to what we listen to and not allow negativity affect our behavior.
ReplyDelete@ robbie-rob In 20 years from now, I think that artist (unless your really know in the industry )won't take those types of risk to talk about politics. Up coming artists are trying to get known , so they might not take those risk to discourage people ideas in politics, so they play it safe. But there are others artists such as the band we listen to in class that don't give a f*** about what people have to say. If you want to take the hard way you are being different, but if you want to take the easier approach you stick with what you know people like, and you evolve your music around things like the latest trends, money, cars and clothes. Whether the artist focus more songs on things that are important is depending on their own personal goals and what they think is important.
ReplyDelete@Vaghn...I don't think the pay them. Since America in general is very materialistic, when someone famous wears something it gives it value and high standards. The more the value the more money it'll because this watch was seen on Beyonce in the Dream Girls Movie. Wearing things of high standards and good value make people feel good about them self and show wealth, so they spend money to prove this. While the designer was discovered from that one movie collects money. So in a way doing this brings in more business because people always want what someone else has or better.
ReplyDelete@Mike Shaver... I guess it depends on the person and what they look for when listening to peoples music or watching t.v.Some people need to know the balance between entertainment and reality. The person should try by having a mind of their own and decide what is ok to take in and what is just there to amuse you.
ReplyDeleteHey ido you ever watch tv and look at the portrayl u see as a reflion of american society?
